Auditorium Shores Off-Leash Area provides a 3-acre lakeside off-leash lawn, while Barking Springs is a one-acre creekside off-leash area within Zilker Metropolitan Park. Barton Creek Greenbelt offers hiking and biking trails, and Kerbey Lane Cafe’s South Lamar branch has a pet-friendly patio.
Austin Parks and Recreation says dogs must be leashed in public areas unless a place is designated otherwise, and off-leash running is limited to designated dog off-leash areas. The department asks you to pick up and properly dispose of waste; on greenbelts such as Barton Creek, it also asks for a leash no longer than six feet. Austin Parks and Recreation does not allow dogs at the city’s nature preserves. At the cafes in this guide, plan to sit on the patio with your dog.
